11th March 2010, Week 6, Term 1 Dear Parents We are having our school triathlon tomorrow, Friday 12th March, starting at 11am. Students will need their bikes, helmets, running shoes (optional), togs, 1 or 2 towels, extra t shirt for biking and running, water bottle, warm clothes in a named bag to put on when they are finished. Family and friends are welcome to come and support the students. The PTA is organising a barbeque for lunch, sausages are $1.50, Moosies and Juicees are $1. I hope some of our students will be entering the Weetbix Tryathlon on 23rd March at Tauranga Memorial Park. This event is for seven to fifteen year olds and is a great challenge. See this website for details: http://tryathlon.weetbix.co.nz/Venues/tauranga.aspx We have a musician presenting a concert at school next Thursday 18th March. I t is always exciting when we have performers visiting the school. The cost will be $3 per child, please send this to school before the concert day. I f you paid an ACTIVITY fee at the start of the year, the cost of this is covered. The Year 7 and Year 8 and students have technology at Reporoa College next week. They will be leaving at 8.50am each day and returning by 2.50pm. They will need to take their lunch and wear full uniform, they need closed footwear for the workshops. If anyone can spare some time each week, we would appreciate parent helpers in the classrooms. Tasks could include: listening to children read, helping with writing or publishing on computers, helping with handwriting, helping prepare resources. If you have some time to spare, please let us know. Our summer sports at Reporoa will be on Tuesday 30th March. The older students will be having a T-Ball tournament, the younger students will rotate around several activities. All children will be going by bus, the bus will only be $3 per child as we have received a subsidy to help with the cost. If you paid an ACTIVITY fee at the start of the year, the cost of this is covered. Parents are welcome to join us at Reporoa. Please remind your children to keep their toys at home. Any toys which appear at school will be looked after by the teachers. Eveready batteries have a competition this year with computer equipment as prizes. We need to collect barcodes from Eveready products, the prize is ‘per head of student’ so please canvas friends and relatives to get as many as possible. The competition runs until September with the first draw in June. Remember to keep collecting ‘Yummy’ fruit stickers also. Congratulations to Ben Edwards who has won a major role in the Boys’ High School production of ‘The Wedding Singer’. This is a Board of Trustees election year, we will be looking for new members for the board. This is an important responsibility making decisions which affect our school. Board members are happy to discuss their role. There is a board meeting next Thursday night. These students won Sunshine Awards at last week’s assembly: Bayley, Jamie M., Mark, Ben, Ronan and Alexandra. Shirley Collins Principal |
